Objective 1A:
To develop a framework for nursing documentation, and on the main components that need to be incorporated in the electronic health record.
Activities:
- Describe the nursing information system in use on nursing practice;
- Discuss with nurses the main components in nursing documentation;
- Define the framework for nursing documentation to be incorporated in the electronic health record;
Objective 1B:
To develop, test and implement the use of ICNP® v2.0 in nursing practice documentation and nursing information systems
Activities:
- Describe the significance of each term for nursing practice;
- Develop nursing diagnoses, interventions and outcomes;
- Test in clinical settings the use of nursing diagnoses, interventions and outcomes;
- Integrate the developed ICNP® Catalogues in the nursing information systems.
Objective 1C:
To develop, test and implement the use of software built up for nursing practice documentation.
Activities:
- Define the nursing data model for the nursing information system;
- Participate on the software development;
- Implement the nursing information system.
Objective 1D:
To proceed to the nursing information system evaluation.
Activities:
- Evaluate the nursing information system;
- Evaluate the impact of the use of a nursing information system on the quality and continuity of patient care.
Outcomes:
- To contribute to the dissemination, integration and use of ICNP® version 2 in Nursing Information Systems at use in Portugal;
- To disseminate a data model for an NIS capable to contribute to the continuous improvement of nursing care.
